On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake. A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood. She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine. An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains. Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince. Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night. Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

First of all, thank you Bella Forrest for sending me the ebook. And in return for my honest review. So here it is.

Since Twilight, I was kinda trained to think that YA+romance+vamps = Twilight-ish-cheesy-novels and I am definitely not a fan of it (Even though I actually loved vampires). The moment I saw this book on Goodreads, I was prepared to back off. But when I read the synopsis and I'm actually interested in it.

Really, I think A Shade of Vampire is nothing like Twilight. Well, yeah Derek fall instantly for Sofia (I rolled my eyes a bit at this) but... it wasn't all that cheesy and blargh for me. If anything, I think this is more similar to the Hades and Persephone myth. Sofia being kidnaped and all... (not that similar though)

The characters... well, I liked Derek and Sofia. In this book, it was all positive for Derek. He didn't do anything bad, except for drinking from a girl and even then he regrets it. I may not swoon for him (like the way I did over tobias) but who can resist a gentle, good looking, and nice vampire? (not being sarcastic) really. And Sofia... I don't know. I just like her, despite her flaws [end of conversation] The new vampire world that Bella Forrest made was really interesting for me. They live in an island where it's always night, and did I mention that they live in trees?

yup, all of those combined into 4 stars. Definitely love this! but really, what's with the ending! thank god the second book is here. At least I wouldn't be waiting...
